Music 4 day option

Choose this option if you love live music – you can dip in and out of all the classes in the timetable or focus your learning.
14th – 18th August 2026
Arrive 3 – 5pm 14th August.  Depart after lunch 18th August 2026

Total Immersion over these 4 days:
You can sign up for these 4 days and dip in and out of whichever classes you fancy from the full timetable.  This includes any of the folklore classes and music classes on the timetable.  It does not include the project with Iana.

Music course
Your teachers on this years music course:  Yasmina of Cairo, Abeer Will, Kay Taylor, Pedro Bonatto and Raphaelle Masson.
Each morning starts with a drumming class with Pedro – this will help consolidate rhythms as well as giving you technique for playing drums.  If you have a duff or tabla, bring it with you.
We have a day working with tabla and a day working with our Summer school band made of musicians most of who are highly experienced Egyptian musicians.
Yasmina of Cairo brings her extensive knowledge of Egyptian music and experience as a professional dancer in Cairo.  Kay Taylor brings her experience of working with musicians both in Cairo and the UK.  Abeer Will brings her innate understanding of music, lyrics and expression.  Raphaelle teaches sagat every lunchtime allowing you to develop your sagat skills.  What a team.
If you have any energy left, there are some classes later afternoon that you have access to as well as all the evening activities.  To get the music course certification you have to attend all the designated classes.  If you want to dip in and out of things, go for Total Immersion.  No need to make the decision now …… you register for the course on arrival at Summer School.

To really make a difference you might want to sign up to our on line music course and work your way through it.  This is designed to give you a really strong grounding and understanding of Egyptian music which is consolidated in the music course at summer school.  Each year the live course focuses on different aspects so you can join us as many times as you like.
